Silver and gold restored to their former glory.
CPAS (Centre Public d'Action Sociale) owns an exceptional collection of silver and gold objecten. A selection of these were treated.
All the treated objects are made out of silver, which has oxidized to a dark colour due to storage in an acidic environment. Some of the pieces were also gilded. The dark oxidation layer has even migrated to the top of the gilding.
In order to restore the colour and luster of the objects, the surface was treated with a fine cleaning paste. The objects were finished with a transparent varnish layer to ensure the surface is protected from further contamination.
