Religious heritage restored to it's former colours.
The crucifix, located on the northern wall of the Saint John Baptist Church in Paal, showed signs of local deterioration due to moisture and exposure to rain and sunshine. Extensive wood decay was located predominantly on the underside of the crucifix and had to be partly replaced. An oak infill was manufactured and fitted at an angle to prevent moisture seepage.
The original colours of the crucifix could be ascertained during stripping of the old paint layers. Using historical techniques, the wood was finished with multiple layers of oil paint, after which some details were gilded. The cast iron statue of Christ was locally repaired, sandblasted and after applying a protection layer, finished with three consecutive paint layers. Even the little canopy which protects the crucifix from above, was treated and finished with oil paint.
