Banister, Lier City Hall

The power of a first impression. A monumental staircase in the City Hall entrance hall.

The impressive entrance hall of Lier City Hall is adorned by a monumental, 18thcentury spiral staircase. The banister is made out of a meticulously carved wooden railing with asymmetrical rocailles.

Due to losses and fractures, one of the banisters was not sufficiently stable. This unstable side was carefully labelled, dismantled and restored in our atelier. During remounting, every rail and baluster was evaluated, filled in where necessary and fastened to the staircase structure. Finally, the complete staircase was finished in order to accomplish an even sheen and appearance.
