A historical interior saved from fire

After a fire, the interior on the lower floor of this 19thcentury manor house was partly destroyed. The house is listed as a protected monument, so after documenting the damage a big restoration project was started.

The grand, pine paneling in the rear room was of exeptional quality, but it was severely blackened and charred after the fire. We carefully dismantled the paneling, during which the realization sunk in that some of the original material was beyond saving. The mostly intact pieces were thoroughly cleaned and the charred surface was removed. All pieces to be discarded were remade and the different profiles were meticulously reconstructed.

The original varnish layer and historical finishing of the wood, was conserved in some areas which had been covered during the fire. Based on these portions of intact wood, all new and old pieces were coloured. The ensemble was finished with a varnish layer.
