A bronze contribution to the reopening of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KMSKA).
A couple of statues belonging to the collection of KMSKA needed thorough maintenance works. The statues were remounted to their position in the museum gardens before the KMSKA reopened. Also among these four statues, was The Dockhand, a Flemish masterpiece belonging to the collection which was made in the 19th century by Constantin Meunier.
All statues were defaced by corrosion problems, with locally thick crusts and active corrosion. The Dockhand was previously finished with a thick layer of was. After thorough cleaning of all statues, the corrosion crusts could be treated locally. Next, we adjusted the patina in some places, in order to achieve a more even colour and look. Finally, new support systems were made in order to safely install the statues on their spots in the museum gardens.
